Feurich Philipps DUCA grand piano

Built: 1914
Serial number: 29384
Mechanism: Phillips DUCA
Length: 2.15 m

This grand piano may be quite unique. According to its previous owner, it was specifically made for an American dancing couple, but could not be delivered due to the beginning of the war. A married couple from Germany bought it then - and it stayed with them, its first owners, until recently. The Feurich grand piano was very sophisticatedly made with a bird's eye maple cover. To our knowledge this is the only Feurich DUCA with this design, as it has been ordered with a special customer-defined design. It got delivered by Feurich on May8th, 1914 to Welte with a sales price of 1415Mark, which was a much higher price than average due to the valuable veneer. The Philipps Duca reproducing system is completely preserved. Even the original fan unit is preserved in entirety and in functional state - its artistic design is a document of its age. The grand piano is currently getting overhauled, so that it will be self-playing again soon.

Feurich Philipps DUCARTIST

Built: 1910
Serial number: 24724
Mechanism: Philipps DUCA
Height: 1.43 m

This Feurich DUCA piano is rather unique in its splendid design. It is one of the early Philipps Duca reproducing instruments. The case resembles the contemporary Hupfeld DEA pianos. The reproducing technology obviously uses many Welte patents and will - after careful restoration - play at least at the same level. Many titles out of a quite large piano roll repertoire may be played. A wonderful piano and a demonstration of contemporary instrument making.

Grotrian-Steinweg DUCARTIST Piano

Built: 1925
Serial number:
Mechanism: Philipps DUCARTIST
Height: 1.45 m

All the manufacturers of reproducing pianos offered a combined type of instrument around the 1920's, i.e. Hupfeld Duo-/Tri-Phonola, Aeolian Duo-Art, Welte "kombiniert", etc. - to survive in a shrinking market. In the end it didn't work out for any of these companies - also because of the huge investments in the late innovations. Nevertheless these late instruments are wonderful. This is a Grotrian-Steinweg DUCARTIST piano - extremely rare compared with Welte green, Hupfeld Tri-Phonola etc.. It is an impressive huge instrument. This one is a "duo" type of instrument, i.e. electric motor only. Very well preserved - the DUCARTIST mechanism has been restored in appr. 2000.
