Hupfeld Elektrisches Piano

Built: ca 1899
Serial number: 9016
Mechanism: Hupfeld Elektrisches Klavier
Height: 1.35 m

Ludwig Hupfeld had the right business instinct to invest intoJ. M. Grob in 1893. Short after this he introduced the Hupfelds Patent 429419 Elektrisches Piano using the Pressspan (cardboard) rolls. This could be integrated with any type of piano - played by hand with a crank - or with electric motor. As the Phonola introduction of paper rolls followed in 1902 already, theses cardboard roll playing pianos haven't been sold on a larger scale. Rare find today. This is one of these pianos in a wonderful playing (by hand, electric motor needs overhaul) condition. A beautiful artcase piano with electric lamps. This piano had been sold by the Munich Musikhaus J. B. Westermair located close to famous Viktualienmarkt. Last foto (source: IHK Nuernberg, Bayerisches Wirtschaftsarchiv BWA) in the gallery shows and advert of this company of the 1890's presenting such a Hupfeld piano.

Hupfeld Phonola Meisterspiel push-up player 65/73

Built:./.
Serial number: 18307
Mechanism: Hupfeld Phonola 72 and 65
Height: 0.97 m

This Hupfeld Phonola push-up player is quite a special version. Hupfeld had popularly announced a combined push-up player with 72 note and 65 note scales to tighten up the competition with Aeolian that had gained a broad range of customers with the previous market launch of its 65 note scale pianola. Few push-up players of this version were actually sold. This is such a combined push-up player that can play Phonola rolls with the 72 note scale - and, in addition, rolls with the 65 note scale. The tracker bar has a slider for switching, and there are two hooks at the take-up reel. The push-up player is very well preserved and wonderfully applicable after a necessary refurbishing.

A perfect supplement for every (grand) piano owner who wants to listen to the almost limitless repertoire of other composers and pianists on his own instrument, in addition to his own play.
